Doulas and Perinatal CHWs in Medicaid: A Learning Series on Leveraging Community-Based Support Services in Medicaid, 2022

The mission of the Institute for Medicaid Innovation is to improve the lives of Medicaid enrollees through the development, implementation, and diffusion of innovative and evidence-based models of care that promote quality, value, equity and the engagement of patients, families, and communities. The vision of IMI is to provide independent, unbiased, nonpartisan information and analysis that informs Medicaid policy and improves the health of the nation.

Every Mother Counts‘ mission is to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. They work to achieve quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care for all by giving grants and working with partners and through leaders to increase awareness and mobilize communities to take action, and invest in community-based programs working to improve access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care. 

The Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI) and Every Mother Counts (EMC) will lead a 12-month initiative to develop an interactive curriculum that will be delivered through a series of web-based learning opportunities.  The learning sessions will include pre-session required activities, guest speakers, and opportunities to engage with experts in community-based doula and perinatal CHW care.  The intended audience for these sessions will be state Medicaid agencies, Medicaid health plans, provider groups, professional associations, and other Medicaid stakeholders.
