Bringing Peer-to-Peer Mentoring for Moms to New Jersey:
The Alma Program

Renée Crown Wellness Institute, University of Colorado Boulder
April 2023-April 2024

The Alma program is an evidence-based, peer mentoring program created by the Renee Crown Wellness Institute for and with new parents experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress.

Developed by a collaborative team of English- and Spanish-speaking researchers, mental health providers, community members, and parents, Alma gives moms the support and skills they need to navigate new parenthood.

In partnership with the New Jersey Department of Health, CHAP helped seed the program’s expansion to New Jersey.

STORIES & NEWS

“The idea of a peer-to-peer approach came from observing the impact of community-based strategies around the world and feedback from women participating in our U.S. research. It started as a ‘wondering.’ What if our world truly saw and honored the wisdom and dedication of parents in supporting one another?”

Sona Dimidjian, Director, Renée Crown Wellness Institute

In 2024, we launched a new series of Partner Spotlights with a feature on the Alma program.
