NJBEFA: Improving Maternal Health Across in New Jersey
A State Exchange for Maternal Health Partner
and Project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors
January 2022-Present
Together with dedicated collaborators, CHAP launched the New Jersey Birth Equity Funders Alliance to support community-based solutions for improving maternal health outcomes for women throughout New Jersey.
In 2019, First Lady of New Jersey Tammy Murphy launched Nurture NJ, a multi-agency initiative to make the state the safest place for women to give birth and raise a child. Alongside this effort, in collaboration with The Burke Foundation, The Nicholson Foundation, the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the New Jersey Birth Equity Funders Alliance (NJBEFA) was created.
In the spirit of collective commitment and action, NJBEFA came together in 2022 to support the state’s maternal health goals, with an emphasis on advancing the approaches and impact of community-rooted changemakers.
Today, we continue to amplify the work of local organizations and leaders striving to enhance maternal health outcomes for women throughout New Jersey.
STORIES & NEWS
“At a policy conversation, I met some of the founding members of NJBEFA and heard about the opportunity to become a Community Advisory Committee member. I had no clue what that meant, but I jumped in, knowing it would be an opportunity to learn. As NJBEFA’s Executive Director, I’ve learned so much about community-based work, philanthropy, equity in practice, and other nuances around running a non-profit. I feel lucky to learn from the amazing people I am surrounded by.”
